SIL versus SDA explained
Supported Independent Living and Specialist Disability Accommodation are often discussed together, but they are different parts of disability support planning.
SIL
Supported Independent Living usually refers to help with daily support needs in a shared or individual living setting. It can include routines, personal support, supervision and skill building.
SDA
Specialist Disability Accommodation refers to eligible housing designed for people with very high support needs or extreme functional impairment. It is about the dwelling, not day-to-day support.
Why the difference matters
Understanding the difference helps participants, families and coordinators ask the right questions, prepare the right evidence and avoid delays when planning accommodation and supports.
How Nogap Healthcare can help
Nogap Healthcare can discuss disability support needs, daily living goals and referral pathways. SDA eligibility decisions require appropriate planning, evidence and NDIS processes.
