Psychosocial disability

Psychosocial disability and NDIS funding

Psychosocial disability can occur when mental health conditions create significant and ongoing impacts on daily life, relationships, community participation, routines or self-management. NDIS-funded supports may focus on functional capacity, recovery and participation.

What supports may involve

  • Recovery-oriented support planning
  • Capacity building and daily routines
  • Community participation and connection
  • Support to engage with appointments and services
  • Psychosocial recovery coaching where funded
  • Risk-aware support and escalation planning

Information that helps a referral

Referrals should describe functional impact, goals, risks, current providers, consent, communication preferences and any urgent mental health or safeguarding concerns. If there is immediate risk of harm, emergency or crisis services should be contacted.
